There's no doubt about it: Our first event Thursday night was a resounding success. At last count, 52 of you showed up. You listened to me jabber, asked smart questions and then sparked productive dialogue in a way I could've never imagined. By the end of the evening, we'd come up with 14 feasible ideas for civic-tech projects that I can't wait to start working on with you all.
The level of passion, the quality of dialogue, and the thirst for actionable next steps was palpable. Even more so, the diversity of the group made for an inclusive community sampling of the entire city's data and service needs. In other words, it wasn't just your stereotypical white straight male group with MacBooks. It was a splattering of people.
In the coming weeks, we'll be posting the ideas to ideas.opensavannah.org for anyone to provide feedback on them. You can upvote the ideas you like, downvote those you don't and discuss each proposed idea.
Look out for word soon on our next brigade meetup. Next time, we'll start building things!
Peace, love and civic tech,
Carl V. Lewis
